Manchester City was very active in the summer transfer window of the 2020/21 season as the Sky Blues have racked up three superstars

Manchester City has been no slouch in the summer transfer window. Pep Guardiola‘s side has been on the lookout for defensive signings in the transfer market. Last season, the Citizens missed out on major trophies as their defense could not sustain pressure in big games and committed too many mistakes at the back. In fact, the club also missed the dominant presence of Vincent Kompany in the defence which was a critical reason behind the club’s downfall last season.

The defensive rebuild demanded new signings in their setup and the club responded to this call by signing two center-backs.
Pep Guardiola signed Nathan Ake from Bournemouth along with Ruben Dias from Benfica. The Dutch centre-back had been a vital cog for the Cherries defense and has been undoubtedly the best defender at the Vitality Stadium. The relegated club accepted a 40 million bid and had let go of their prized asset after Manchester City showed serious interest.

Even in the midst of bolstering their defense, City managed to add Ferran Torres from Valencia. The Spaniard was one of the key members at the Mestalla Stadium as the winger made 34 appearances notching up 4 goals and 5 assists in La Liga last season. The Valencia star was brought to Etihad this summer on a deal worth 21 million pounds to fill in Leroy Sane‘s void.

The Citizens concluded their transfer business by securing the services of Ruben Dias from Benfica. The Portuguese international had been one of the targets of the English club for the past few months.  Man City paid 65 million pounds for the 23-year-old centre-back and are backing him to tidy their inconsistent defense.

Pep Guardiola’s side was also linked with players like Kalidou Koulibaly, Lionel Messi, and Isco but none of them got close to joining the Sky Blue outfit.

At present, Pep Guardiola’s men have had a bittersweet start to their Premier League campaign as they managed only 4 points out of 9 and are currently 14th in the league table. However, the former Bayern coach would not be too bothered with their current standing as he would feel that his side has time to mend their way up to the top.

The trio of Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, and Ferran Torres is expected to improve the side and help the club to regain their League title back from Liverpool and also become strong contenders for a maiden Champions League title.
