AVOID DROPPING FORM IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Manchester City’s best run in UCL in the recent years came under Manuel Pellegrini in 2015-16 season, when they reached the semifinals, losing to Real Madrid by a narrow margin. However, under Pep Guardiola, City have often found a way to lose their knockout games. In 2016-17, they were defeated by Monaco. The following year, they were thrashed by Liverpool and lost 5-1 on aggregate score.
In 2018-19 season, Manchester City were knocked out by Spurs in a goal-scoring fest, which ended 4-4 on aggregate. However, Spurs progressed further due to away goals. Last year, they were defeated by Lyon in the quarterfinals, despite defeating Real Madrid in the last 16. The truth is that, Manchester City had enough firepower in their ranks to overturn all those defeats they have suffered in the previous years.

GET AGUERO BACK TO HIS BEST
Sergio Aguero is without a doubt a City legend. However, he has fallen down in the pecking order at the club as he was out of action since last June due to an injury. He ended his longest Premier League goal-scoring drought against Fulham, after he scored his first goal since January 2020. Doubts have been cast over the Argentine’s future at the club, with Gabriel Jesus becoming the club’s first choice striker.
However, Pep Guardiola must realize that to find the long awaited UCL glory, he must get back his experienced striker to his best. This means giving the Argentine enough time on the field to regain his lost confidence. Sergio Aguero is certainly a class apart and he will play a vital part in City’s UCL campaign this year.
