Arsenal superstar enters the radar of Unai Emery’s new project at Villarreal after being appointed as head coach since November 2019.

After getting sacked by Arsenal in November 2019, due to the worst run of form for the club since 1992, Unai Emery has been given the job of managing LaLiga side Villarreal CF. The Spanish manager is now looking at potential transfer targets to add to his squad in Spain.

One such target is Arsenal player, Matteo Guendouzi. Having already played under him, the Spaniard is fond of the 21-year-old French international and would like for him to join him at Villareal. The youngster has already fallen out of Arsenal’s pecking order due to his inconsistent performances and antics on the field, the most popular being the incident where he grabbed Brighton player Neal Maupay by the throat.

The Gunners’ head coach Mikel Arteta has no use for the youngster at the club and wants to get rid of him. Already looking for renovations at the club, funds gathered from the sale of Guendouzi could also benefit the club greatly.

However, Villareal is not the only club interested in the French midfielder as FC Barcelona has also been known to show interest, offering Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic as some of the exchanges. Unfortunately for the Blaugrana, the deals were rejected by the North London side. It seems that the 21-year-old would be making a move, most likely to Villareal rather than any other club.

The person responsible for bringing Guendouzi to Arsenal is Unai Emery himself, and he managed to do so with big clubs like PSG still interested in the former Lorient player. Rightly so, one of his first actions as Villareal coach was making the midfielder a priority in the transfer window, but it remains to be seen if the interest will be reciprocated by the player.

The Arsenal midfielder would surely get more playtime in Villarreal than in Barcelona and with the Spanish side qualified for the Europa League, a move away from the North-London side would be beneficial.

Talks have been going on between the two clubs, offering the player a loan with an option to buy, but nothing has been finalized as of yet. It remains to be seen where the Frenchman will end up in the future.
