Souness believes that Tottenham Hotspur needs to bid farewell to their superstar
Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur has come under the speculation of the media recently as the north London side has struggled since the Premier League resumed after the three-month suspension due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Several Spurs fans believe that Jose Mourinho is not the correct manager to lead this pack of players as the club seems to be playing defensive football of the late. However, the actual reason behind The Lilywhites poor form could be because of the board.
The north London side had gone 11 months without signing a player and Pochettino somehow made the best of all the players last season. However, the very same players have failed to perform this season, and holding Mourinho responsible makes no sense.
Tanguy Ndombele was the big-money signing, however, the highly-rated French midfielder has struggled to keep fit all season and has reportedly fallen out with Jose Mourinho for reasons which are not known to the general public.
Jan Vertonghen has also been poor this season in the league and it seems like the Dutch midfielder might just make his way out from the club during the summer transfer window. Eric Dier and Dele Ali have been heavily inconsistent with their performances and the pair have struggled to keep fit as well. Harry Kane is also going through a rough patch this season as the English goalscorer has struggled with injuries and has also been poor upfront during goal-scoring opportunities.
Nonetheless, criticism is part of the game, and until Spurs do not perform there is technically no escaping for Jose Mourinho and his staff. Former Liverpool manager and current football pundit, Graeme Souness, strongly believes that Hugo Lloris has to make his way out.
The French midfielder has made several goalkeeping errors this season that has cost the Premier League side several points. Although Lloris is still one of the top goalkeepers in the world, it is high time for Spurs to move on and search for a younger goalkeeper.
Hugo Lloris is set to turn 34-year-old by the end of this season and a young replacement must be brought this summer. Jose Mourinho could consider Unai Simon of Athletic Bilbao who has been on form this season and would certainly prove to be a great signing for the future.
If the French goalkeeper leaves Spurs this summer, who do you think is the ideal replacement?
