Tottenham Hotspur see clear daylight in a bid to sign RB Leipzig star

Tottenham Hotspur are itching closer to sign one of their top transfer targets from the German side, RB Leipzig this summer window.

Tottenham Hotspur are readying themselves for a busy transfer window as they keep an eye on their top transfer targets for the summer. After several rounds of scouting and negotiations, Spurs are within striking distance of securing a deal for the RP Leipzig star, Marcel Sabitzer.

As reported by Bild, there is a 75% chance that Sabitzer makes a switch to the north London club in the summer. The Austrian’s contract expires in the summer of 2022 and with the player unwilling to extend his stay at the club, Leipzig will look to cash in on the midfielder in the upcoming transfer window. Since the 27-year-old does not have a release clause, the Bundesliga side are looking for a fee of around 35 million pounds, which matches his current market value.

This development in Sabitzer’s future at RB Leipzig has alerted Spurs as they are one of the three Premier League clubs in the race to sign the Austrian star. The report from the German daily adds that Spurs manager, Jose Mourinho became a fan of the midfielder’s abilities during the Champions League round of 16 clashes last season. Spurs had established contact with the Austrian in January with an eye on a summer move.

However, one key factor in the deal is whether Spurs can match the asking price of 35 million pounds set by RB Leipzig. Tottenham are expected to raise funds for the Austrian midfielder as they plan to get rid of Dele Alli in the summer, who still has three years left on his contract. CEO of RB Leipzig, Oliver Mintzlaff revealed that the club will sell more players in the summer in order to go about their business, which hints at Sabitzer’s potential exit.

Marcel Sabitzer has made 21 league appearances for Leipzig this season, scoring six goals and assisting another three goals. Last season, he delivered an impressive return as he scored 16 goals and had 11 assists to his name in all competitions. His stellar performances from the midfield have invited potential candidates from the Premier League who are willing to sign the Austrian star. Sabitzer is exactly the kind of player, Jose Mourinho loves having on his side. He can form a lethal partnership with Pierre-Emile HĂžjbjerg in the midfield, which can make them serious contenders for the Premier League title next season.
