Tottenham Hotspur lineup a transfer for an exquisite Championship striker to act as a backup for England international Harry Kane
Tottenham Hotspur currently sits seventh on the table after their 1-1 draw against Newcastle United. The Magpies were handed a controversial penalty in injury time that saw them draw the game level against Spurs. With just, four points in three games for Jose Mourinho’s side, changes need to be made immediately if the club is to qualify for a Champions League spot next season.
One of the many issues that the Portuguese manager faced last season when he took over the struggling north London side was the serious high number of injuries in the senior squad. In particular, England international Harry Kane struggled with hamstring injuries last season.
To qualify this season for a Champions League spot and hopefully win a domestic cup, the north London side requires more depth in their attack. Despite signing Gareth Bale on a season-long loan, Jose does not want to put all the pressure on the Welsh winger to cover up in the attack in case Harry Kane gets injured. If the England skipper does get injured this season, the manager believes that Joshua King of the Championship would be his ideal back-up.
The 28-year-old Norway international has been part of AFC Bournemouth since 2015 and has scored 48 goals for them so far. However, the side was relegated last season and now is part of the Championship. Joshua King at the age of 28, will not want to continue in the second division at the prime of his career.
A move to Tottenham Hotspur could be an ideal situation for both parties. The Lilywhites will finally have a replacement for Harry Kane and for cheap, meanwhile, King will have the opportunity to grace the Premier League once again. The 28-year-old has shown his worth in the English top-flight before as well. In the 2016/17 season, King scored 16 league goals and in the 2018/19 season, he scored 12 league goals. Hopefully, Mourinho finds his form once again at Tottenham.
