Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a possible move for AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli whose contract runs out in 2022.
Tottenham Hotspur will look to bounce back next season after a disappointing 2020-21 season that saw them finish seventh on the Premier League table and as runners up in the Carabao Cup. Spurs are currently on the lookout for a manager to lead them next season as Ryan Mason’s interim contract has already expired.
While their search for a manager continues, Tottenham have set their sights on a defender from AC Milan, according to Mundo Deportivo. Alessio Romagnoli whose contract runs out in 2022 has been identified as a key transfer target for Spurs.
The 26-year-old is regarded amongst the best defenders in Serie A due to his style of play. The Italian centre-back is a strong defender, who is quick on his feet and is always up for a challenge. He’s also strong in the air and is a threat from set-pieces. Jose Mourinho wanted him during his stint at Manchester United and even at Tottenham Hotspur, as he considered him to be an all-around centre-back.
Romagnoli will certainly be an upgrade over the likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld. Spurs have been sub-par while defending last season which cost them numerous points in the league and saw them crash out from the Europa League after Dinamo Zagreb pulled off a remarkable comeback.
Surprisingly, the Italy international is valued at just 25 million euros on the transfer market and has his contract running out next summer. With that being said, AC Milan do not have much room to negotiate with and could be forced into selling their star defender for a reasonable price rather than losing him on a free transfer.
