3 talking points as Leeds United stun Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road

Leeds United put up another top performance against a top Premier League side after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Elland Road.

It’s gone from bad to worse for Tottenham Hotspur after the Lilywhites were handed a shocking defeat against Leeds United. Marcelo Bielsa’s side outclassed Spurs on every level and deservedly picked up three points after securing a 3-1 victory at Elland Road. Goals from Stuart Dallas, Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo put Leeds home and dry, meanwhile, Son Heung-min’s goal turned out to be a mere consolation for the visitors.

After the defeat, Ryan Mason’s side are currently placed seventh on the league table and could end up finishing a position below provided that Everton win their two games in hand. A top-four finish now looks impossible for Tottenham Hotspur and qualifying for the Europa League next season seems doubtful too after their recent run of performances in the league.

Nonetheless, the loss against Leeds United will certainly be a tough pill to swallow for the Spurs faithful, meanwhile, the fans at Elland Road have a reason to be proud after clinching three important points against another top Premier League opposition.

DIFFERENT MANAGER- SAME ISSUES FOR TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Jose Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur because of his defensive style of management. The Portuguese manager was relieved off his duties following the 2-2 draw against Everton and Ryan Mason was appointed as the interim manager. However, despite the change in management, the same defensive issues continue to prevail at Tottenham and these issues have cost them ample points in the Premier League.

Stuart Dallas scored an early goal after a defensive error from Sergio Reguilon inside the visitor’s box. Son Heung-min then levelled the game at the 25th minute but his efforts went in vain as Spurs’s defence crumbled to hold onto the score. Patrick Bamford then gave the hosts the lead after Tottenham’s defence fell apart once again and Rodrigo’s late goal ruled out all possibilities to turn the score around.

If Tottenham are to win any silverware next season then the defence has to be fixed over the summer. Spurs have to consider signing a centre-back and a right-back as Serge Aurier and Eric Dier have been awful while defending this season. Toby Alderweireld’s contract will be expiring at the end of the season along with Joe Rodon’s loan spell. Daniel Levy has to make signings over the summer and rebuild the entire back four for the new season.
