Mikel Arteta receives an offer for an unwanted Arsenal superstar from a Spanish giant that finds itself in troubled waters currently
Arsenal has had a spell of terrible seasons, but somehow this season, they have managed to lift the FA cup even after shambolic displays in the Premier League and the Europa League. The London side wishes to improve upon those performances and had appointed Mikel Arteta as their head coach for the 2019-2020 season, entrusting him with the responsibilities of rebuilding and renewing the squad according to his wishes.
Since then, the Spaniard has placed around 9 of his players up for transfers which include players who he does not see playing a role in his future plans for the club, or players who are not performing nearly on the level on which they should be. One such player is 21-year-old midfielder Matteo Guendouzi. The Frenchman was bought from Lorient in 2018 under Unai Emery and was considered a great prospect for the club.
Under Arteta however, Guendouzi has struggled to find minutes on the pitch and Arteta doesn’t share the confidence that Emery had with the youngster. The player had already fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal due to his attitude and antics and the last straw was in the game against Brighton where he grabbed opponent Neal Maupay’s neck and was accused of insulting and mocking the opponent. For his indiscipline, he has been cast aside and not included in the squad.
According to reports, a move away for the Frenchman is in the works with Spanish giants Valencia looking to secure a move for him. The midfielder plays the pivot role and can play on either side and with Valencia frequently playing formations that allow that style of play, the addition of the youngster might prove to be very resourceful for Los Mercelagos. There are other teams too interested in the transfer of the 21-year-old with talks going on with Unai Emery’s current side Villareal where he is looking to reunite with his former player.
Due to the current situation of the pandemic, Valencia can afford to pay the wage bills for the Arsenal but will be looking to loan out the player first. No deal is finalized yet but is safe to say that a future at the Emirates seems highly unlikely for Guendouzi.
