Sergio Ramos of Real Madrid makes a stern and sensible demand from Florentino Perez to renew his current contract
Sergio Ramos has entered the final phase of his contract at Real Madrid this year. The captain of Los Blancos is on contract at the Santiago Bernabeu until the summer of 2021, however, Real and the defender are yet to come to an agreement over a possible extension.
The Spanish centre-back has been a loyal servant for the club since he signed in 2005. Over the years, Ramos has transformed into one of the world’s very best defenders and at the age of 34, the Spaniard has entered the final few years of his career. As Ramos near’s retirement, he would have to make an important decision of either continuing at Real or move to another club and receive a higher wage before he retires.
Diaro GOL reports that Sergio Ramos now believes that his achievements and dedication towards Real Madrid over the past few years should be rewarded in terms of a better contract. Ramos is the third best-paid player in the squad as the captain is placed below Gareth Bale and former Chelsea winger Eden Hazard who is the highest-paid player.
Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale have been Real’s most inconsistent performers in the 2019/20 campaign, however, the duo earns 20 million pounds and 18.5 million pounds per year respectively. Meanwhile, Sergio Ramos has been Real’s saviour for the 2019/20 season and has been one of the most pivotal players in the La Liga campaign.
The injustice in the wage structure seems to have taken a hard hit on Ramos and his ego. The player rightfully deserves higher pay than both Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard, however, the final decision is in the hands of Florentino Perez. The president of Los Blancos wants to offer Ramos a yearly extension that would mean that the club and his agent would have to discuss terms at the end of very reason.
However, Ramos prefers a two-year contract with an increment in his wages. Real would have to tread carefully with this situation as the club has kept close tabs on Dayot Upamecano, Milan Skriniar, and Matthijs de Ligt to replace the Spanish defender.
Would you prefer to see Ramos at Real for another two seasons or would prefer Ramos to be replaced after this season?
