Sergio Ramos demands the immediate departure of Real Madrid’s Spanish defender
Real Madrid continues to top the La Liga Santander after the Los Blancos defeated RCD Mallorca at home to a 2-0 victory. Zinedine Zidane altered the starting line up and decided to play a double pivot of Luka Modric and Federico Valverde which permitted Eden Hazard to be deployed as a free role central attacking midfielder.
Earlier in 2019, Zinedine Zidane’s men dropped points against RCD Mallorca due to a foolish mistake by Alvaro Odriozola which led to the only goal of the game in favour of the underdogs. However, this time Real Madrid did not squander their chances as Vinicius Junior scored the opener with a beautiful chip goal and Sergio Ramos netted an exquisite free-kick into the top left corner in the second half of the game.
The game ended with controversy on whether Sergio Ramos got lucky by not being sent off after avoiding being booked on numerous occasions, however, the captain of Real Madrid has once again made the headlines after Don Balon report that the 34-year-old Spanish defender has asked the board at the Santiago Bernabeu for the immediate departure of Alvaro Odriozola.
The Spanish right-back was signed in the summer of 2018 due to his impressive performances while at Real Sociedad and was considered as an influential signing for Real. Alvaro Odriozola did perform admirably in his first season at the Bernabeu but fell short when it mattered most in the important games.
However, this season the Spanish full-back has featured only four times in the league under Zinedine Zidane and was loaned out to Bayern Munich in January during the winter transfer market for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.
Alvaro Odriozola and Achraf Hakimi of Real Madrid will be making their way back to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer from the Bundesliga upon the completion of their respective loan spells. Sergio Ramos, however, made his opinion clear that he would prefer to have Achraf Hakimi at Madrid rather than his compatriot and the captain believes that selling the player in the summer would be a win-win situation for both the parties.
Since Hakimi can play as a Right-wing-back and as a Right-back, the Moroccan international offers Zinedine Zidane a lot more versatility than Alvaro Odriozola. Hakimi has also performed admirably at Borussia Dortmund and has been pivotal for their recent success, meanwhile, Alvaro Odriozola has failed at making an impact at Bayern Munich by securing just two appearances in the German League so far for the Bundesliga leaders this seasons.
What do you make of Sergio Ramos’s demands? Is it a wise decision to sell Alvaro Odriozola this summer?
