Liverpool would like to go for more trophies next season after winning their first league title in three decades but will need changes and additions.

Liverpool are having an absolute blockbuster of a campaign as they continue breaking records having already sealed the Premier League title. The Reds are on course to beat the point record set by Manchester City. However, they failed miserably in the defence of their UEFA Champions League title as Atletico Madrid clearly outplayed the Reds over two legs.

Having said that, it’s fair to say that the backline is vulnerable. Jurgen Klopp’s men have conceded the least goals in the English top-flight but they can certainly do better. The fullbacks have been caught high-up on the pitch, whereas Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk have both been prone to errors of late. The Dutchman certainly needs a better partner.

Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly has been heavily linked with a switch to England of late, with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United all thought to be in the running for his services. So far, nobody seems to have made an official approach as yet but he seemed to have signalled that it will take something special to drive him out.

Sadio Mane may have that personal touch which the central defender has been looking for, The Sport Review reports. The Senegal international seems to have personally asked his seniors to recruit his compatriot in the summer transfer window. Koulibaly’s slashed price of 80 million euros seems to be well within the reach of any club despite the pandemic.

Kalidou Koulibaly will be a fantastic addition to the Liverpool roster and would practically make them unbeatable in a partnership alongside Virgil van Dijk. Two of Europe’s best centre-backs combining in the same eleven will make Klopp’s outfit triumphant for years to come because the attacking options are anyway plentiful for the German.

But all things considered, it’s unlikely that this deal would go through. Jurgen Klopp seems to have been told by his bosses that no big signings would be made this summer due to financial losses. Koulibaly certainly fits the “lucrative signings” bill, putting off the chances of a union with Mane on Merseyside.

One player that the Reds are seemingly close to signing though is Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara. After spending several years in the Bundesliga, he believes the time is right for a new challenge and with a price tag of roughly 35 to 40 million euros, the newly crowned Premier League champions have turned their attentions towards the Spaniard.
