Real Madrid have dealt a backstep in their bid to sign one of the best Manchester City players in the upcoming transfer window.
Real Madrid are in the driving seat as far as La Liga is concerned but face a difficult task in the UEFA Champions League where they are chasing a goal’s deficit against Manchester City. Los Blancos’ hopes of winning a 14th European Cup may not be realized this season and in a bid to strengthen their chances next season, they’re eyeing a squad revamp.
City’s playmaker and perhaps the world’s best midfielder in Kevin De Bruyne was on their radar since a few weeks. Florentino Perez was also keen on landing the Belgium international with Eden Hazard also supposedly talking to the former Wolfsburg man. Zinedine Zidane also gave his green light for KDB, who would replace Luka Modric.
However, the 29-year-old is set to stay at the Etihad Stadium for longer in spite of the club being handed a two year ban in the UEFA Champions League. Don Balon claims that Kevin de Bruyne is no longer interested in moving to the Santiago Bernabeu and will commit his future to the 6-time Premier League champions.
Kevin de Bruyne’s rejection towards the Whites is a blessing in disguise for them, given the younger players will naturally get more opportunities. To be honest, the club shouldn’t be signing a midfielder in the upcoming months and help their developing crop in making an impact even if Modric leaves down the line.
Federico Valverde has taken full advantage of the faith Zinedine Zidane has shown in him and is arguably one of the world’s best midfielders in the world right now. The box-to-box superstar’s involvement would’ve hampered in case Real Madrid landed their Belgian target but for now, it looks like the Uruguayan will keep him place in the squad.
Not to mention, Martin Odegaard will also come back to Spain’s capital in 2021 once his loan spell at Real Sociedad comes to an end. The Norwegian has suffered tendinitis but there’s still hope that he performs well. With great anticipation of seeing the 21-year-old playing for the Whites, De Bruyne should never have been on the radar.
