Real Madrid superstar Lucas Vazquez has reportedly turned down a lucrative offer from the Middle East to continue at the Bernabeu
Lucas Vazquez is said to have rejected a big-money move from an unnamed Qatar side, according to One Football. The 29-year-old winger was touted to leave this summer after being linked with a move to several clubs for more game time. Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane, has relied upon the services of the Spanish international on numerous occasions, however, the player has failed to cement a role as a starter despite being at the club for several seasons now.
The 2019/20 season saw the 29-year-old right winger make 23 appearances across all competitions, however, a majority of them were off the bench. Due to the immense competition in the attacking lineup, Vazquez has been used as a makeshift right-back by Zinedine Zidane on several occasions since the departure of Alvaro Odriozola to Bayern Munich.
The lack of game time this season has seen the 29-year-old being linked with a move to Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur who were willing to offer the player more game time. However, the right-winger wants to continue at the club and Zinedine Zidane considers him to be an integral member of the squad for the upcoming season.
Currently, Real has one of the best squad depths in Europe and Vazquez is willing to stay on for another season at the Bernabeu to fight for a spot. The player’s sacrifice and hard work have always been in the best interest of the club, however, at 29, Lucas Vazquez has to decided whether he wants to spend the rest of his career on the bench or play a regular football at another club.
The upcoming 2020/21 season will be vital for Real Madrid as they will look to retain the league title and also aim for a record 14th Champions League title. With such a highly competitive squad,Vazquez is aware of how difficult it can get to secure a starting spot in of the most successful clubs in the history of football.
