Real Madrid are expected to have a major overhaul in the summer and the club is planning a good number of sales and buys in the window.

Real Madrid bagged another hard-fought win in La Liga against Athletic Bilbao, thanks for Sergio Ramos coolly finishing his penalty. After a temporary lead of seven points at the top, the Whites are now four ahead of Barcelona who were on top of Villarreal with a convincing 4-1 win just a few hours later on Sunday.

Zinedine Zidane keeps building on his success as a coach with Los Blancos now having clear sight of the big trophy on their radar. The Frenchman’s man management and amazing use of squad depth has come very handy especially in such a difficult period, but the manager’s transfer demands could see the squad get trimmed.

Diario GOL has reported that the Merengues’ boss is now demanding the arrivals of Eduardo Camavinga, Milan Skriniar, Paul Pogba and Sadio Mane over the next couple of months. The manager feels that replacing aged players is crucial and the moves should be undertaken at a time where price tags are likely to drop as a result of every club’s financial struggles.

Florentino Perez has now asked Zidane to get rid of players worth 200 million euros if he wants the desired signings. In order to adhere with the president’s ask, the first-team coach has now shortlisted six players who he does not count in his plans for the following year.

Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, Marcelo, Mariano Diaz, Brahim Diaz and Lucas Vazquez are the chosen ones.

Bale has seemingly had a foot outside the Santiago Bernabeu ever since Zidane took over as the head coach for a second tenure and was widely expected to join an unnamed Chinese club last summer. However, he ended up staying but Zidane is likely to keep on excluding the Welshman until he leaves the club.

James Rodriguez on the other hand has been vocal about his desire and took a passive dig at the club for not letting him leave last summer. There is widespread talk that he could leave this time out though as Everton’s boss and former Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is also interested in uniting with the Colombia international.

Selling the attacking duo is expected to bring 70 million euros oddly to Los Blancos.

Marcelo is another player worth 30 million euros who is likely to be sold. However, it remains to be seen whether his transfer-listing is true. The Brazilian has been happy playing as a back-up for Ferland Mendy and his conduct with the club in any condition has been absolutely exemplary making him one of the least saleable players.

Among the other attackers, Mariano, Brahim and Lucas are all likely to leave. The striker has barely had any minutes in any competition and would be sold, whereas Brahim is likely to leave on a loan move to some Spanish club itself given his potential. Lucas Vazquez could join Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur is recent news is to be held true.

In hindsight, it looks like Zidane is ready to commit the same mistake which he did in 2017/18 and subsequently was well-beaten by Barcelona in La Liga. The manager offloaded the likes of Alvaro Morata, James Rodriguez and Pepe which took a major hit on the squad depth as these players tended to perform better in busier schedules.

Landing Pogba seems to be a distant fantasy given Federico Valverde has taken huge strides at Real Madrid, but Eduardo Camavinga could be seen in white as Casemiro desperately needs a back-up. Meanwhile, Sadio Mane’s addition on the right-wing would be welcome, but expensive given the player’s quality and Milan Skriniar too would be a stunning recruit.

Do you think Zidane’s transfer plans are going to come to fruition this summer?
