Real Madrid have reportedly re-ignited their interest to sign Manchester United’s superstar
Real Madrid prepares to take on Espanyol this Sunday in the evening at the RCDE Stadium. The Royal Whites of Madrid would be hoping that Barcelona drop points today against Celta Vigo which would then make the title race a lot easier for Real to clinch their 34th Spanish top-flight league title.
Although the club is fully focused for the remainder of the La Liga and to defend their spot on top of the table as league leaders, however, as the summer market is approaching, the club has also turned its attention towards recruiting and selling players.
The reports emerging from Spain claim that the Los Blancos have re-ignited their interest in signing Paul Pogba from Manchester United this summer despite the financial crisis the club faces due to the pandemic.
The former Juventus midfielder has won the hearts of Zinedine Zidane on several occasions and the Real coach has never turned an opportunity down publicly to praise his fellow countrymen. Last season there were rumours that Zidane had agreed to take over as the manager of Real Madrid on the condition that Eden Hazard of Chelsea and Paul Pogba as Manchester United would be signed in the summer of 2019. However, the promise by Florentino Perez has been a half-hearted one since the club signed Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic as their marquee signings over the Red Devil’s midfielder.
From a technical standpoint, Zidane considers his fellow compatriot to be the ideal replacement of Luka Modric who is currently 34 and will soon enter the final year of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu. The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been the engine of Real since his breakthrough season under Carlo Ancelotti and replacing him with Paul Pogba does not seem to be the best alternative.
The two players have a completely different playing style, the 34-year-old Croatian is an explosive box to box midfielder who effectively contributes while attacking and defending, meanwhile, the French midfielder from the Premier League has transformed into a deep-lying midfielder due to his physicality and passing skills.
Florentino Perez certainly does not require to break the bank once again by signing the 2018 World Cup winner from the city of Manchester. In fact, Real have two potential replacements for Modric in their squad themselves.

Federico Valverde and Martin Odegaard have been the two standout performers this season in the La Liga Santander. The Uruguayan international midfielder has shown the potential to replace Modric since he is extremely explosive like Modric and has the stamina to effectively cover the field from box to box for 90 minutes. Meanwhile, the Norwegian on loan at Real Sociedad has shown his true colours this season as one of the most lethal attacking midfielders in the Spanish League.
However, in the end it boils down to the decision made by Zidane and Florentino Perez. If Real Madrid is to sign Paul Pogba this season, where do you see the former Juventus man fitting in the squad? and which player do you believe should make way for the French midfielder?.
