Real Madrid want to rebuild this summer and will look to make a surprise signing from Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur when the window opens.
Real Madrid are hoping to move within clear sight of La Liga when they take on Granada on Monday evening, in a clash where victory would take them to two points to Spain’s summit. The Whites have been a complete unit this season especially at the back, but when it comes to the final-third, a lot of onus is on Karim Benzema to perform.
Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio were both injured for the whole season practically, whereas Luka Jovic has done nothing to justify the 65 million euros which were spent in signing him. Gareth Bale doesn’t seem to be bothered about the club and has not scored a league goal in over 10 months now. Madrid’s next highest scorer is Sergio Ramos.
One may argue that the Merengues have not been at their brilliant best this time out either and are probably leading the league standings because even Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have had their fair share of downs. With that said, the next season is expected to be better as is always the case at Real Madrid. Diario GOL reports that Florentino Perez has a plan.
Perez is keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane in the summer after his evaluation was decreased by the north Londoners. Kane has been vocal about wanting to win silverware elsewhere if not with the Lilywhites, thereby opening the door for Los Blancos to bring him in. Moreover, he isn’t exactly inclined with Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho and Kane usually clash considering that both of them want to assume leadership. Unfortunately for the England international, a de facto leadership is what he has to settle for as Jose Mourinho simply does not let the players run the club’s business. All the instances with the Portuguese boss are also a reason why he wants to leave.
Kane’s value is now just 100 million euros as Daniel Levy’s club is also struggling with finances due to the coronavirus. In addition to that, Jose Mourinho has demanded a productive transfer window which may see the club break its bank. Despite Perez wanting the English forward, Zinedine Zidane believes he isn’t needed.
For Zidane, Karim Benzema is the one who will always be indispensable in the squad. The former Lyon striker gets a good number of goals, but his overall involvement in the game is unparalleled. Zizou believes that there is a reason that Benzema is still at the club having staved off competition from the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Alvaro Morata over the years.
Benzema has showed that age is not a factor that hinders and while the Merengues need a scorer to complement the Frenchman, Kane may not be the right choice. Since 2017, the World Cup’s Golden Boot winner has been prone to injuries and seems to have lost ambition to perform on the biggest level.
Harry Kane’s performance at the UEFA Champions League Final last season was not too commendable either whereas this season in the Premier League, he has not been anything extraordinary even when fully fit. Real Madrid should give Luka Jovic another year to perform, unless it’s for off-field reasons, before inevitably signing Kylian Mbappe in 2021.
