Real Madrid close the signing of a galactico but lose out on another

Real Madrid are reportedly confident of signing one of the world’s most sought after forwards this summer after agreeing to personal terms.

Real Madrid have been quiet in the transfer market for the past three windows with no signings. The lack of signings and the unnecessary departures of a few players has severely backfired this season for Zinedine Zidane leaving him with an extremely thin squad at his disposal.

The number of injuries has hindered the club this season which has lead to numerous veteran players being overused such as Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema, to name a few. Florentino Perez will look to address this issue by signing a few players over the summer to rebuild the squad.

Todo Fichajes reports that Real Madrid have closed negotiations with Kylian Mbappe after agreeing to personal terms. The Paris Saint-Germain winger will be entering the final year of his contract at the end of the season which means that PSG will be forced into cashing in on the 22-year-old forward or risk losing him for free next year.

Mbappe is currently valued at 160 million euros on the transfer market but Los Blancos would be looking to negotiate the evaluation and close out a deal at a rough figure of 150 million euros.

The French international has been wanted at the Santiago Bernabeu for the past couple of seasons and his arrival could potentially lead to the forming of one of the most lethal attacking trio’s consisting of Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard and Kylian Mbappe.

The signing of the 22-year-old could bring an end to Los Blancos’ attempt at replacing Cristiano Ronaldo. Like the Portuguese talisman, Mbappe is a potent and consistent goal-scorer with 39 goals and 10 assists in 44 fixtures in all competitions so far this season.

His ability to consistently find the back of the net would take the burden off Benzema’s shoulders as the Frenchman has been the only reliable source of goals since Ronaldo’s departure in 2018.

Apart from the technical side of football, the signing of Kylian Mbappe would also help Real Madrid financially. The PSG forward is a global icon and has already achieved the status of being a “galactico’ at the young of 22. Mbappe’s arrival would directly lead to an increase in merchandise sales, ticket sales and incrementally increase the club’s popularity around the world.

Meanwhile, Real have also kept a close look at Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland as the heir to Benzema’s throne. However, any attempt to sign the striker this summer has been ruled out by the officials at the club, who see Mbappe as a clear priority.

Haaland has a release clause set at 75 million euros which will be activated from 2022. With that being said, the Merengues are willing to wait another season before they trigger the Norwegian’s minimal release clause and have him join forces alongside Kylian Mbappe.
