Florentino Perez has asked Zinedine Zidane whether he wants to sign a goal-scorer and has presented the coach with five options.
Real Madrid were held to a 0-0 draw at Real Sociedad despite playing well. The Whites were good defensively and even controlled the ball for large parts of the game. However, their problems were old were on documenting once again as they struggled for goals with Karim Benzema being the only one in the box and neither winger being a great finisher.
Zinedine Zidane opting in favour of Marvin Park and Sergio Arribas coming off the bench over Borja Mayoral or Luka Jovic clearly signaled the Frenchman’s lack of trust in both strikers. He did say that there was no need to change the formation in the post-match interview but from his past interactions with Jovic, the reason may be otherwise.
Mayoral, despite travelling with the squad is already on the loan list and could even be sold subject to a reasonable offer and Jovic has apparently being told to look for a club to head out on loan. While only one of the two strikers will be allowed to depart, Florentino Perez has offered the manager an option to land a striker this summer, Diario GOL claims.
Edinson Cavani is the first name on the list. Cavani is a free agent right now after being released by Paris Saint-Germain and has most recently offered himself to Real Madrid. The 33-year-old is a fantastic poacher of the ball and is the best short-term option considering age and most importantly, the absence of a transfer fee in any potential deal.
Carlos Bacca is another option proposed by Perez. The Colombian marksman has extensive experience in La Liga and is currently on the books of Villarreal. He is keen on leaving the Castellan side and a move to the Spanish capital would not cost much. Bacca too has a style similar to that of Cavani and with good service, he can get the crucial goals.
Alexandre Lacazette is another cheap option that has been presented on the table. The Frenchman will be allowed to leave Arsenal in the summer and is a consistent goal-scorer as well. However, Lacazette’s wage demands coupled with a potential ask for more minutes could pose a problem in Real’s quest of landing him from the Emirates.
Besides the two ageing forwards, Perez has also listed two younger players whose propositions may be reasonably priced. Sevilla winger Lucas Ocampos is among those that has caught the president’s eye, whereas a move for Juventus target Arkadiusz Milik is also being considered by Los Blancos’ head.
Despite the options being given to Zidane, the coach remains of the opinion that the squad available to him is good enough to deliver as the season progresses. He pointed out the lack of preseason that the team had before its first official outing and also shed light on the returns of other goal-scorers like Marco Asensio and Eden Hazard in the coming days.
Instead of signing a striker right now, Zinedine Zidane feels that its best that the club continues with its existing squad as it is a very comfortable and familiar setup for those involved. Moreover, he wants the club’s aim only to be set on landing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain and thus does not want any moves that could risk his transfer.
Do you think Real Madrid must land a goal-scorer to accompany Benzema before deadline day?
