Barcelona have set a price tag on one of their most expensive signings, who is now on the radar of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
Barcelona have unwillingly continued their unfortunate streak of signing expensive players that have turned out to be flops. The trend started after the departure of Neymar from the side when the club made the buys of Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund and Philipe Coutinho from Liverpool.
The two signings cost the team more than 300 million euros, and the players’ performances have not even been anywhere close to worth the price tag.
But, even after the massive failures, in the summer of 2019 the side invested heavily on another talented player, Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid. After a World Cup victory, the forward was on of the best in the world at the time, and the transfer seemed promising.
However the move went against the wishes of the dressing room of the Blaugrana and the players were unhappy with the arrival of the player.
The former Atletico Madrid player has just managed 15 goals from 48 appearances, which although are not terrible numbers, are not good for a 120 million euro striker. With these disappointing performances, and the emergence of youngster Ansu Fati in the position, Barca are willing to part ways with the Frenchman, according to Express.
Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest in him and are amongst the European clubs who are looking for striker options.
Manchester United have made the move of Edinson Cavani to their side as a temporary solution to their striker problem and the 34-year-old has been doing the job well. But it is unclear as to how long the Uruguayan would be able to keep up the performances.
Griezmann would be a perfect replacement for the veteran, and could compliment the fast attack of the Red Devils, as they would lack a clinical world-class finisher.
For PSG, the transfer is likely to be of lesser priority. Real Madrid have long since been interested in the transfer of Kylian Mbappe. The 22-year-old has been edging closer to a move to Los Blancos, and if a deal is carried out this summer, the Parisiens would have the task of replacing the talented forward.
Griezmann would be a more than viable option worth exploring, as he would come much cheaper, but offer the same world class quality offered by Mbappe. Moreover, the Ligue 1 is far less competitive than La Liga- in which the Frenchman has proven his credentials.
Although Le Petit Prince has been going through a bad run of form, he is still capable of being one of the best in the world. However, due to his form Barca have had to slash his price tag down to 50 million euros for any club that would like to make a purchase of the player.
Manchester United and PSG do have the funds to carry out the move and it will be seen if the 29-year-old would be making a move away from Barcelona.
