A look at the potential eleven Zinedine Zidane will field for Real Madrid on the side’s opening match-day at Real Sociedad.
Real Madrid begin the defence of La Liga with a difficult away fixture against Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena. Zinedine Zidane’s men return to action just six weeks after being shown the door by Manchester City in the Champions League and one day after selling two fantastic players in Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon.
Zinedine Zidane has called up 22 players for the trip to San Sebastian but his list does not include Eder Militao, Isco, Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard and Lucas Vazquez as all of them are unfit. Andriy Lunin, Martin Odegaard and Borja Mayoral though, do travel with the team, after the end of their loan respective spells. Marvin Park and Santiago Arribas are also in the squad.
Thibaut Courtois will remain in goal for the Merengues. The Belgian shot-stopper conceded lesser goals than anyone in La Liga last season and will be out to repeat those heroics. Dani Carvajal will be the right-back and will be joined by Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos at the back. Ferland Mendy is likely to start over Marcelo, thanks to his pace and physique.
Casemiro will continue to be indispensable in a fixture of such calibre as Real Madrid have not signed a backup just yet. The Brazil international will be key in thwarting La Real’s attacking enterprise. Toni Kroos’ diagonal balls will be important in penetrating the opponent’s defence, while Luka Modric will help play the ball into the ball, both will start.
Eden Hazard’s absence could aid Vinicius Junior’s calls for a starting berth on the left flank of attack. The 20-year-old could be accompanied in the final third by Rodrygo Goes on the right-hand side. Karim Benzema outscored everyone but Lionel Messi in La Liga last season and will lead the line upfront with the two Brazilian wonderkids.
