Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a full squad to choose from when his side hosts Crystal Palace at the Old Trafford.
Manchester United return to Premier League action a week later than most other clubs after an extended rest owing to European commitments in August. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men host Crystal Palace at the Old Trafford on Saturday evening in their first official outing of the 2020/21 season.
The Red Devils will face a side that has always created problems for them and will do so with the entire squad staying fit. Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones are going to miss out through injury, but they wouldn’t have started the match anyway. Given that he is spoilt for choices, the manager will field the strongest eleven.
David de Gea will continue to start in goal despite Dean Henderson’s return from Sheffield United. Manchester United’s failure in landing a left-back so far will mean a start for Luke Shaw, whereas the other fullback’s role will be occupied by Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Harry Maguire will partner Victor Lindelof in a backline of Solskjaer’s primary choice.
Nemanja Matic is expected to start in a double pivot in the centre of the park and would be joined by new recruit Donny van de Beek. The latter has had a decent amount of time to settle into his new side after a switch from Ajax Amsterdam and could have his official debut right from the first minute.
Solskjaer always prefers playing three players behind a lone striker and that’s unlikely to change on Saturday. Bruno Fernandes’ versatility could be tested as he may get a nod on the right side of attacking midfield, while Marcus Rashford will play on the left. Paul Pogba will play as a free-roaming central attacking midfielder, supporting Anthony Martial at the striker position.
