Manchester City will hope to bounce back from the derby defeat as they host Southampton in the midweek clash.
Manchester City saw their 21 match winning streak come to an end as they were defeated by their local rivals, Manchester United on Sunday. Nevertheless, Pep Guardiola‘s men have a huge lead at the top of the table, extending to 11 points from the second place, Manchester United.
The Sky Blues are expected to make a few changes to the starting lineup, ahead of their Premier League fixture against Southampton at the Etihad Stadium. Ederson will start between the sticks for the hosts. City are expected to go in with their first choice centre back pairing as they look to bounce back from the derby defeat. Ruben Dias and John Stones will start as the centre-backs.
Kyle Walker will come back into the starting lineup, and will occupy the right-back position. Joao Cancelo will shift to the left-back position, which means Oleksandr Zinchenko will find himself on the bench. Rodri has starred in the last two league games, and will be likely replaced by Fernandinho in the centre defensive position.
Kevin De Bruyne who returned from injury only last month, has started in all of the three previous games for the league leaders. Pep might consider resting the Belgian, given the fixture pile-up in the coming weeks. Bernardo Silva will come back into the side and will be designated as the playmaker of the team in the absence of De Bruyne. Ilkay Gundogan will hold his place in starting lineup and will complete the three man midfield to face Southampton.
Phil Foden, who has not started a single league game since the away win against Everton last month, will come back into the starting lineup and will occupy the left-wing. Fernan Torres who has fallen down in the pecking order at City in the past month will be given an opportunity to prove himself. The Spaniard will start on the right-wing and will hope to make a statement with his performance against Southampton. Sergio Aguero is likely to start as the striker for the hosts after he was dropped to the bench in the weekend clash against the Red Devils.
