Predicted Liverpool line-up for the clash against Southampton

Liverpool will be hoping to close the gap to the top four in the Premier League table when they lock horns with Southampton

Liverpool will entertain Southampton at Anfield on Saturday night as they desperately look to return to winning ways in the Premier League by picking up all three points at home. The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw in their last league game at Anfield, so they will be eager to produce a much-improved showing this weekend.

Alisson Becker will feature in between the sticks for the Merseyside giants after shipping in one goal against the Magpies last month. Nathaniel Phillips will get a start in central defence alongside Ozan Kabak as they try to maintain a defensive shape at the back and restrict the Saints from scoring during the 90 minutes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson are guaranteed starters out wide. With Phillips available again, Fabinho ought to return to his preferred role at the base of the Liverpool midfield from where he will look to cut out Southampton’s attempts at pushing forward.

He will have support from Georginio Wijnaldum, who will be the workhorse in the centre of the park while Thiago Alcantara should get the nod over James Milner in the remaining slot in the middle to provide creativity on the pitch.

Moving up into the attacking third, Sadio Mane could get another chance to shine as a left-sided winger. He needs to have a good game if Liverpool are to come out on top this weekend. On the other side, Mohamed Salah would look to weave his magic from the right flank. Roberto Firmino is expected to get the responsibility to spearhead Klopp’s attack on Saturday night

Firmino had been named in the starting eleven last time around when the match got called off and the Brazillian international remains in line to grab the striking role ahead of Diogo Jota.
