A predicted lineup as Arsenal are set to host the champions of England, Liverpool, at the Emirates Stadium

One of the biggest surprises of last season from the Premier League had to be of Arsenal managing to win two trophies, namely the FA Cup and the Community Shield. With extremely disappointing and inconsistent performances throughout the season, not a lot was expected from the Gunners as even their 8th position finish in the league was a testament of their poor form. However, towards the end of the season, Mikel Arteta’s side pickup up the pace and put up a few amazing displays of quality that saw them winning the titles they did.

The north-London side has made a fantastic start to the 2020-20201 season as well, winning their first two matches of the campaign against Fulham and West Ham. Now, the team is set to play their third game against title defenders Liverpool who will also be looking to continue their unbeaten streak.

The Gunners had recently played the Reds in the Community Shield finals which ended in a 1-1 draw on regulation time and concluded with a win to Arsenal on penalties. The performance put up by Arteta’s side was remarkable in the match as they gave Klopp and his team a run for their money in the first half scoring the opening goal, which the League champions overturned after the break.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, a lot of players from their side have been lost to injuries with Shkodran Mustafi being out due to a hamstring injury, Gabriel Martinelli due to knee issues, and Kieran Tierney, Cedric Soares, and Socrates Papastathopoulos being in doubts of starting due to minor injuries.

The formation predicted to be played would be the same 3-4-3

Bernd Leno would be the obvious choice to start out in goal with the defensive three featuring Gabriel Meghales, Rob Holding, and the possible inclusion of Kieran Tierney. The status of the Scottish international still seems to be in doubt with him recovering from a groin injury, but the player returned in full form to training recently and would be a favourite to start against the champions. David Luiz would also be an option for Arteta, but due to his poor form last season it is unlikely that he would be starting in such a huge game.

Bukayo Saka and Hector Bellerin would be featuring in the left wing-back and right wing-back positions respectively. If Socrates or Luis is to be included in the lineup by any chance, Tierney would be taking the position of Saka in the left flank. However, Arteta would have full confidence in the English international due to his impressive performance recently at Wembley against the league champions.

The midfield duo is to consist of Dani Ceballos and Granit Xhaka, both of whom are regular starters and have shown fantastic control in the middle of the park recently. As seen in the match against the Hammers, the duo pushes up the field pressing the opposition forcing them to play long balls which are cut out quite easily. Both of them help in attacking scenarios as well, finding open space for the wings, and picking out crucial through passes.

The attacking trio will be looking to stay untouched with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starting at the left-wing, Willian, the new signing from Chelsea featuring on the right-wing, and Alexandre Lacazette being the sole striker. The wingbacks will be expected to have a huge impact on the attacking aspect as if Saka wishes to move upfront, the formation will quickly be changed to a 4-2-4 with Tierney shifting to the LB position and pushing Aubameyang to a more central role, effectively having two strikers.

The odds will be against Arsenal as Liverpool has gone 63 league games unbeaten at home and Arsenal have not won the first three matches in the league since the 2004-2005 season.
