Predicted line up for Liverpool as they are set to face unbeaten Everton in the Merseyside derby this weekend

Following the international break, domestic football and the UEFA Champions League are set to commence from this weekend. The Premier League returns with probably one of the most anticipated fixtures as current league leaders Everton are set to face defending champions Liverpool in the Merseyside derby. The game will be a judging factor for both sides as it will the pave way for more accurate speculation and predictions for the rest of the 2020-2021 season.

Everton has been unbeaten so far in the league with four wins out of four, and with Carlo Ancelloti making a few excellent buys this transfer window it is extremely unlikely that last season’s 5-2 result will be seen again. On the other side, Liverpool will be looking to regain their confidence and their form after getting thrashed by Aston Villa 7-2 right before the international break commenced.

The task on hand might be touch and a grueling one for Jurgen Klopp’s men with Ancelotti’s Everton showing exceptional form and performances on all aspects of the pitch. The club has managed to score 11 goals in their last three Premier League games and the Reds, on the other hand, have conceded and scored 11 in their last four. It might be an uphill battle for the men in red to keep the Toffees out of their net.

As for players that will be missing out on the action, Naby Keita would not be making the trip to Goodwill Park due to fitness issues along with Allison Becker. Thiago Alcantara and Sadio Mane, after testing positive for Covid-19 during the international break, will hopefully be returning to play against Everton. Jordan Henderson will be returning to action following his injury which enabled the Reds’ captain to miss out on the Aston Villa match.

In the line-up against Everton, Liverpool is likely to go with their regular 4-3-3 formation.

Adrian would be featured between the sticks due to the concerns over Allison’s injury concerns. The defensive backline will likely consist of Trent Alexander Arnold, Andy Robertson, Virgil Van Dijk, and Joe Gomez. Though there may be doubts over the inclusion of Gomez in the starting eleven as he was not up to standards in their last bout against Villa, Klopp always has Joel Matip as a strong backup.

The midfield will be going through a massive change as compared to their last match, with Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara replacing Naby Keita and Georginio Wjnaldum. With the Englishman and the Spaniard returning to action, a more controlling and dominant performance in the middle of the park will be expected from the side as compared to their previous performance. Fabinho will be the third midfielder joining the duo, playing his more defensive-oriented role in midfield.

Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane will form the attacking trio. Liverpool felt the absence of Mane in their game against Villa as the Senegalese international plays a huge role with him making runs on the wings and also falling back to help out in defense. With the 28-year-old being ready for action, Jurgen Klopp will be well prepared to face the threat that Everton have recently proven to be.
