Chelsea and Arsenal face off in the showdown clash of the midweek matchday of the Premier League on Wednesday evening.
Chelsea and Arsenal go toe-to-toe in the final London derby of the 2020/21 campaign in the Premier League. The Blues would be looking to reclaim third spot in the league standings by claiming a win against the Gunners, who they have failed to beat in their last three attempts, across all competitions. The reverse fixture ended in a 3-1 win for Arsenal.
Thomas Tuchel will host Chelsea’s most bitter rival for the first time since taking over the managerial job. The German has already scuppered some of the world’s big fishes and will hope that Mikel Arteta’s side is next in queue. Andreas Christensen and Mateo Kovacic are the only players the west Londoners will miss for this clash.
Edouard Mendy will keep his place in goal. The Senegalese has been in great form this year, but he did ship three goals in his previous meeting against Arsenal. He will look to turn a corner in his first derby at home. Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta will keep their places in a three-man backline, which will see Thiago Silva return to the eleven.
N’Golo Kante is likely to continue playing regularly at least until Mateo Kovacic returns. The Frenchman will be joined by Jorginho in the middle of midfield. The Italian midfielder was among those rested at the weekend. Ben Chilwell will replace the match-winner against Manchester City, Marcos Alonso, at left wing-back, while Reece James will play on the right.
Mason Mount was entirely rested against Manchester City and did not even form a part of the substitutes. The Englishman will resume duties on the left wing. Callum Hudson-Odoi could get a few more minutes under his belt on the right wing, whereas Kai Havertz is likely to lead the line- a new position which he has earned under Tuchel.
