Predicted Chelsea eleven as they host Atletico Madrid in the UCL

Chelsea are set to host Atletico Madrid at the Stamford Bridge tonight as they prepare to proctect their precious one goal lead.

Chelsea are set to host La Liga leaders, Atletico Madrid at the Stamford Bridge tonight to play out the second leg of the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League. The Blues managed to secure an important victory in the first-leg courtesy of Olivier Giroud’s acrobatic finish.

Tonight, Thomas Tuchel’s main objective would be to eliminate Atletico’s attacking threat to prevent them from scoring an away goal. However, under Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid have remained undefeated at Stamford Bridge winning one and drawing one. Meanwhile, Chelsea are yet to lose a game under Tuchel who has somehow managed to rejuvenate the same team that seemed miserable under Frank Lampard.

Tammy Abraham and Thiago Silva are set to miss the fixture due to injuries meanwhile Mason Mount and Jorginho are ruled out from the second leg due to suspensions. Thomas Tuchel will be without a few key players in the fixture. On the flipside, Diego Simeone has a completely fit squad at his disposal.

With that being said, it is expected that Chelsea will line-up in a 3-4-2-1 formation. Edouard Mendy will start in between the sticks and the three man defence will consist of Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger. The defence will have to be cautios tonight as Atletico have a rampant attack in the likes of Luis Suarez and Joao Felix.

In the midfield, since Jorginho is suspended for this fixture, Thomas Tuchel would go for a double pivot of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic.  Reece James and Marcos Alonso will be deployed as the two fullbacks in this formation and are expected to play higher up the field to breach Atletico’s solid backline.

In the attacking midfield, Tuchel would opt to play Calum Hudson-Odoi and Timo Werner as wide attacking midfielders down the wing. Olivier Giroud will remain as the sole striker in this set-up to compelte the attack. From the bench, the likes of Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech could be brought on to change the course of the game when needed.
