Barcelona are set to play against Getafe in La Liga at Camp Nou. Winning is the only option for Ronald Koeman and his players. tonight.
The La Liga title race is still an open one for Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid. The latter picked up three points yesterday against Cadiz which has seen them propel on top of the table. However, second-placed Atletico Madrid share the same points with their city rivals and also have a game in hand. Meanwhile, Barca are sitting fourth on the table, but have two games in hand.
The remaining eight fixtures are a must-win for Ronald Koeman and his players if they are to win the Spanish league. Barcelona were recently crowned champions after winning the Copa del Rey against Athletic Bilbao and have now set their sights on the La Liga title. A double could be on the cards for Koeman this season but it would require a herculean effort to win the league.
Barcelona now take on Getafe at the Camp Nou tonight. The visitors must not be taken lightly as they held a depleted Real Madrid team to a draw in their previous fixture. With that being said, Koeman will have to ring in a few changes to his starting eleven against Jose Bordalas’s side.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen will start in goal for the Catalans tonight. In the defence, Oscar Mingueza, Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet are expected to play as the back three. Ronald Koeman has been using the 3-5-2 formation lately that has worked wonders when compared to his previous favoured formation 4-2-3-1.
In the wing-back positions, Sergino Dest and Jordi Alba are expected to play down the flanks. Dest has struggled in his debut season at Barca but the American defender has shown glimpses and potential to improve. Meanwhile, Alba has managed to resurrect his career this season after underperforming in the 2019/20 season.
In the midfield, Sergio Busquets is expected to play through the centre as the holding midfielder. Frenkie de Jong and Pedri will play as the left and right centre-midfielders respectively. The former will occasionally drop deeper to assist Busquets during defensive transitions while Pedri will be given the freedom to move higher up the field.
The front two will consist of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann. Messi had a field day against Bilbao scoring two goals in the Copa del Rey final. Griezmann also found the back of the net as he scored Barca’s opening goal in the 0-4 thrashing to Atheltic Bilbao. The left-footed duo have been in fine form recently and are expected to threaten Getafe’s defence.
