Manchester City will make a weekend trip to Craven Cottage with an eye on the Champions League clash against Borussia Monchengladbach.
League Leaders, Manchester City returned to winning ways as they defeated Southampton in the midweek clash. It was a morale-boosting victory for the Citizens who suffered a derby defeat against Manchester United last weekend.
The Sky Blues will travel to Fulham for the weekend clash, as they aim to extend their lead at the top of the table to 17 points from their nearest rivals, the Red Devils who are set to play on Sunday and have an extra game in hand. Pep Guardiola is expected to ring in several changes, to have his squad well-rested for the crunch Champions League fixture against Borussia Monchengladbach.
Ederson will start between the sticks for Manchester City. Ruben Dias is expected to drop to the bench, after starting the previous seven games for his side. This means, that Aymeric Laporte will hold his place in the starting lineup and will partner John Stones at centre-back. Joao Cancelo was on the bench for the clash against Southampton and should slot in at the right-back position, replacing Kyle Walker. Oleksandr Zinchenko will start on the left side of the defence.
Rodri will come back into the starting lineup after being rested against the Saints. The Spaniard will operate as a centre defensive midfielder. Bernardo Silva will play in midfield and make his second successive start this week. Kevin De Bruyne is expected to be rested for the Champions League fixture. Ilkay Gundagon will complete the three-man midfield for Pep’s side. The German midfielder was on the scoresheet in the midweek clash and continues his fine form.
Raheem Sterling will start as the right-winger, after he was benched against Southampton. Ferran Torres who has fallen down in the pecking order at City will be given an opportunity to prove himself as he can get the nod over Riyad Mahrez to start as the left-winger. Mahrez has been heavily involved in the past month, and it would not be a bad idea to rest the Algerian. Sergio Aguero will operate as the striker for Manchester City and will complete the attack for the league leaders.
