Paris Saint-Germain keen on landing a veteran Juventus midfielder this summer transfer market as Andrea Pirlo has no plans for him
Juventus have recently appointed their former player Andrea Pirlo as the head coach for the 2020-2021 season. The Italian hopes to bring a big change in the team after what came as a disappointing season for the team before his arrival under Maurizio Sarri. Under Sarri, the Old Lady’s midfield suffered majorly with almost no creativity and seemed to be seen as a lack of motivation.
The defense and attack were relatively solid, but because of the troubles in the middle of the park, the results were majorly affected which saw the team getting knocked out by Lyon in the Champions League and almost losing the league to Inter Milan.
The key points for Pirlo to improve upon would surely be the midfield and getting rid of the players that are not up to the mark, and that is exactly what is being carried out. Miralem Pjanic, a 30-year-old was swapped for a younger and a more promising Arthur Melo from Barcelona. Also, the loan of Weston McKennie, a 22-year-old from Schalke 04 is to help their causes.
In turn, the Bianconeri are looking to get rid of another aging midfielder, German international Sami Khedira. The 33-year-old, although a key and quality player for the Italian side has fallen out of the pecking order and will likely struggle to get game time as learning from last season, Juventus are likely to start more creative or players with higher work rates to help the attack and defense, and being of such age the former Real Madrid player’s services might not be required anymore.
As a result, Khedira has been put up on the transfer list and according to reports, has already attracted suitors for himself. The interest comes from Ligue-1 side Paris Saint-Germain. After the departure of Thiago Silva to Chelsea, a lack of physical presence might be the reason for concern for the Parisiens, with Idrissa Gueye being the only prominent physical figure in the team.
With the likes of Julian Draxler, Marco Veratti, Leandro Paredes among others in the midfield, a more physical and strong player like Khedira might prove to be a great addition to the squad and could be a move that PSG could look forward to carrying out. The German midfielder has one year remaining on his contract but he could be featured in a free move to the French capital if the Serie-A champions decide to terminate his contract.
