Paris Saint-Germain has identified a long term replacement for their Brazilian captain Thiago Silva who is set to leave the club.

Thiago Silva is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain after eight long years with the club. The Brazilian captain’s contract will not be renewed with the Parisian based team as they no longer require the services of the 36-year-old defender.

Silva has been linked with moves within Europe and outside Europe as well, Arsenal has been one of the top teams that have shown serious interest in signing the defender to solve their issues in the backline. Along with the former AC Milan defender, Edinson Cavani will be leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the Champions League campaign after spending seven long years at the club in which he also became the club’s highest scorer.

Don Balon reports that PSG has shortlisted Ibrahim Konate of RB Leipzig. Konate has also been a target of Chelsea this summer, however, Frank Lampard’s side is currently focusing on signing Kai Havertz from Bayern Leverkusen instead.

The 21-year-old defender was racked up by RB Leipzig when he was just 17-years-old on a free transfer. Konate’s rapid progression and development has proven the fact that Leipzig made the correct decision by signing the French defender in the summer of 2017 on a five year contract.

The Bundesliga man would be an ideal partner alongside Marquinhos as the 21-year-old is a solid defender due to his physical built as he stands at 6’4 feet. Konate despite being tall is a fast defender and is calm and composed on the ball when playing out from the back. The youngster has shown tremendous potential and maturity at such a young age and under the guidance of the experienced Marquinhos, it is almost certain that Konate would grow into a world-class defender.

PSG would have to offer a figure close to 40 million euros to secure their replacement for Thiago Silva.

Meanwhile, Edinson Cavani has been linked with a move to Leeds United who has secured promotion to the Premier League after 16 years, however, the move to Leeds seems highly improbable as the striker demands a massive wage which was the very reason why Atletico Madrid withdrew their interest.
