Paris Saint-Germain are looking into the option of signing a Juventus midfielder this summer transfer window after he was excluded from the club’s plans.
Following Andrea Pirlo’s sacking, Juventus have announced the reappointment of Massimiliano Allegri to rebuild the sporting project. Allegri is planning on a complete revamp over the summer and is open to the idea of selling several players including the likes of Arthur Melo and Cristiano Ronaldo. Calcio Mercato reports that the Brazilian is not part of Allegri’s plan and could be offloaded this summer with Paris Saint-Germain showing interest in the 24-year-old.
The former Barcelona midfielder has endured a rough start to life in Turin and had struggled to cement a place in the starting eleven under Andrea Pirlo. His poor physical conditioning, numerous injuries and lack of sharpness prevented him from receiving adequate game time.
PSG are interested in acquiring the services of the Brazilian midfielder this summer. The Parisiens could do with a creative midfielder as they currently have several deep-lying midfielders in the shapes of Ander Herrera, Danilo Pereira, Leandro Paredes and Marco Verratti.
Their only attacking midfielder options are Angel Di Maria, Neymar and Raphina Alcantara. The latter has not performed up to the expectations and could do with some competition from Melo. Meanwhile, Neymar and Di Maria are more of wingers which leaves the club with fewer options from the central attacking midfield role.
Arthur’s versatility can offer Mauricio Pochettino several options while setting up the midfield. The Brazilian can play as a holding midfielder due to his superior ball distribution skills and can also operate higher up the field since he can get past opponents with ease in tight spaces. His arrival would add more firepower to PSG’s arsenal in the midfield.
The Ligue 1 is comparatively less physically demanding which would make it easier for the Juventus midfielder to settle down. However, his injury record and poor lifestyle choices have to be taken into question before considering a move. Arthur Melo has developed a notorious reputation since his time at Barcelona and has led an extremely hedonistic lifestyle that has held him back from achieving his true potential. Paris Saint-Germain must rethink their offer as the Brazilian midfielder could go astray if he reunites with his compatriot Neymar in Paris.
