Paris Saint-Germain attempt a last ditch effort to snatch Barcelona target

Paris Saint-Germain have lined up a final offer for Georginio Wijnaldum to hijack Barcelona’s prime transfer target.

Barcelona have been in constant touch with Georginio Wijnaldum whose contract runs out with Liverpool at the end of this month. The Dutch midfielder’s agent met Joan Laporta twice last week to discuss a four-year contract at Camp Nou. It all seemed to have been going well for the Catalans, however, Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly prepared a final offer to hijack Barcelona’s target, Wijnaldum.

PSG are keen on adding more depth to their squad over the summer, especially in the defence and midfield. Mauricio Pochettino wants a box-to-box midfielder to partner Marco Verratti in the midfield and Gini Wijnaldum has been identified as the ideal transfer target. His style of play fits the requirement that Pochettino is looking for.

The 30-year-old is at the top of his game and still has another few years under his belt to perform at the highest level. His aggressive style of pressing coupled with his incredible conditioning to play on both ends of the pitch will benefit Paris Saint-Germain immensely.

PSG’s midfield has been overly reliant on Verratti, who single-handedly runs the engine room. The 28-year-old needs a better partner in midfield and Wijnaldum’s presence in the middle of the park could complement Verratti’s style of play- allowing the Italian to move higher up the field and contribute to the attack.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Les Parisiens have offered a lucrative contract with a huge salary and are waiting for the player’s response. Meanwhile, Barcelona have already prepared to have the 30-year-old’s medical examination but are also waiting for his final decision.

The Catalans might end up signing Wijnaldum over PSG because of Ronald Koeman”s continuity at the Camp Nou next season. The Dutchman wanted his compatriot last summer under the former incumbent Josep Maria Bartomeu as well. Where do you think Georginio Wijnaldum will be playing next season? At the Camp Nou or Parc des Princes?
