A highly productive transfer window for Paris Saint-Germain has not ended yet as they continue to scout for new additions in the market.
Paris Saint-Germain have had a fantastic transfer window as they have now signed Achraf Hakimi, Georginio Wijnaldum and Sergio Ramos. The club is also set to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has become a free agent after leaving AC Milan at the end of last season. Besides four new arrivals, PSG are far from done in the transfer market.
According to RMC Sport, the PSG board is interested in signing a midfielder with Eduardo Camavinga and Paul Pogba thought to be potential targets. Both midfielders are in the final years of their contract at Rennes and Manchester United, respectively, and have shown no interest in renewing their deals beyond 2022.
Having already signed Wijnaldum, Paris Saint-Germain signing another midfielder would complete a brilliant transfer window for them. Their engine room has been a weak link in recent years, especially in the Champions League when opponents have thoroughly outplayed them by winning the midfield battle. As such, they are still lacking quality and could do with one more signing.
Camavinga and Pogba would both be incredible signings for PSG, but the former could be on his way to Manchester United and may attract a number of suitors due to his price tag of only 30 million euros. Pogba meanwhile will be an expensive proposition in terms of transfer fees and wages, both, but is within the Parisian side’s affordability and is vastly experienced.
In addition to that, Pogba is very keen on moving to the Parc des Princes and Mino Raiola, the player’s agent is thought to be in talks with the French giants over a potential switch this summer. Should Manchester United not manage to strike a fresh agreement with the midfielder, the ball is in his court and he may be on his way to Paris this summer.
The Red Devils too could be resigned to selling the 28-year-old in this year’s summer itself rather than losing him for free at the end of next season. To make matters tighter for them, they have already spent on Jadon Sancho recently and may break the bank for Raphael Varane as well, so parting with their record signing for no money a year later may be a huge financial blow.
Pogba’s addition to that Paris Saint-Germain squad will help them complete an attractive sporting project and one that could also lead to Kylian Mbappe renewing his contract. The former Juventus midfielder is a manager’s dream and as has been visible with France, he can flourish if used to his strengths, which one can trust Mauricio Pochettino to do.
A midfield trio of Marco Verratti, Georginio Wijnaldum and Paul Pogba with all three capable of playing interchangeably across the engine room is a manager’s dream and recipe to success. Not to mention, Pochettino will also be able to call upon the likes of Ander Herrera and Idrissa Gueye who will most likely be relegated to the bench from next season.
Besides looking for another midfielder, PSG are also monitoring Lionel Messi’s situation at Barcelona. He is currently a free agent, but at the moment, everything inclines towards the Argentine signing an extension with the Catalans. However, if Barca are unable to overcome their financial woes, the Parisians will be ready to pounce on yet another free agent.
