Manchester United could help Barcelona in a huge way by indirectly assisting them in completing a massive tranfer.
Barcelona continue to hunt for a striker as the transfer window enters its final days. With the departure of Luis Suarez on the instructions of Ronald Koeman, the team no longer has a dedicated striker. Youth academy graduate Ansu Fati has been showing some promise and might be a great prospect for the future but what the team currently needs is a world-class finisher who is more experienced and can be trusted with the first-team role.
The Catalans have been searching long and hard for alternatives and have stumbled upon a few viable candidates as well. Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez was to be the chosen player to fulfil this role, but due to the Italian side’s high asking price for the Argentine, the two teams could not reach on an agreement for a possible transfer. Since then, Barca has been trying to negotiate with the Serie A giants, offering player plus cash deals but all to no avail. Consequently, the Blaugrana were forced to look elsewhere.
After a fantastic Champions League campaign, the eyes of the La Liga giants went to Olympique Lyon’s star player Memphis Depay. The Dutch international was really impressive last season scoring 15 goals from 22 total appearances. Also having played under Koeman in the national team, the 57-year-old was very keen to bring the forward to the Camp Nou.
To Barcelona’s dismay, however, the same problem was faced regarding the transfer of the former Manchester United man, the issue of funds. The Ligue 1 side concluded that Barca does not have enough money to match their asking price of the player and refused to sell their star. Now Koeman’s side would have the task to gather enough funds by sales if they want to make a huge signing before the end of the transfer window, and according to reports an opportunity to do so might be in the works.
Premier League side, Manchester United have been chasing after the transfer for Jadon Sancho but have made no significant progress as they cannot afford the high price that Borussia Dortmund has placed on the English international. As a replacement, the Red Devils have looked into Ousmane Dembele who plays for Barcelona. The Frenchman would cost them significantly less and would be an excellent alternative to Sancho since a loan move looks like a realistic option for him.
The fee for which the Frenchman would be leaving stands at around 50 to 60 million euros, not only would it be a cheaper alternative for United, the funds gathered from the move would aid directly to the signing of Memphis Depay for Barcelona. First contacts have been made between the two sides and it will remain to be seen whether a move which will benefit all parties concerned, would be carried out.
