Manchester United target opens up a possible return to the club after a disastrous past with the Red Devils
Manchester United had signed Memphis Depay in the summer of 2015 from PSV on a four-year contract. The player was presented with the iconic number 7 jersey and it seemed like the Dutch winger had it all in him to be a successful Red Devil.
However, Depay failed to live up to the high expectations at the Old Trafford and was criticised week in and out for his poor performances. In 2016, Memphis Depay was sold to Lyon for 22 million pounds and since then the player has not looked back.
Depay has managed to turn a new leaf in his career at Lyon. The 26-year-old Dutch international has been performing for Lyon for the past four seasons and this year the French side managed to stun Juventus and Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.
Memphis Depay has now scored 57 goals for the French club in four seasons and has grown into a prominent name in European football. Manchester United, Barcelona, and AC Milan have shown serious interest in signing the player.
However, according to reports, Paris Saint Germain have shown interest in signing the former Manchester United man. PSG made it to the final for the first time in the club’s 50 year history and Tuchel and his men are eager on winning the competition next season.
At PSG, Depay would earn twice the salary he already does at Lyon and would have a clear shot at winning more trophies. The Parisians could possibly even win the 2020/21 Champions League, provided they make the correct signings over the summer.
It seems like Memphis Depay will not be making a return to the Old Trafford anytime soon after the interest shown by Paris Saint-Germain. The Dutch international is also wanted by Barcelona as Ronald Koeman is eager to work with his compatriot.
Only time will tell where Depay plays next and certainly looks like a return to the Premier League is not on his cards.
