Manchester United will not need to sell their first-team superstar after being rejected by a fellow Premier League club

Jesse Lingard has endured a difficult time at Manchester United for the past couple of years. The Englishman has fallen out of favor for the Red Devils last season and it seems like this season would be the same. The 27-year-old has not featured regularly and has been pretty rusty of late

A few days ago there were strong rumors that the English international was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur. The north London club was reportedly interested to bring the attacking midfielder.

Recent developments suggest that the Spurs have decided not to make a move for the English midfielder. Jose Mourinho is said to have rejected the possibility of reuniting with his former player. Jesee Lingard believed that a fresh start under Mourinho would help him revive his career after the recent stagnant form he has suffered under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Last season he was able to manage only 22 appearances in the Premier League and scored only one goal in the campaign. His only goal came against Leicester in the final game of the season. Despite being barely included in the match day squad last season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that the English midfielder will be able to find his form once again and could be of use this season.

Jesse Lingard has had his share of ups and downs at Manchester United. In the 2016 FA Cup final, the attacking midfielder came on for Juan Mata to score the winner against Crystal Palace in the final of the domestic cup. However, since then, his career has been on the decline.

The 27-year-old was handed his first start in the EFL Cup against Luton. Lingard was left out from the matchday squad against Crystal Palace which ended in a horrible thrashing for the Red Devils. At the age of 27, Lingard must make the decision of either continuing at United with no squad role or seek for a new club where he can make the most of his prime years that lay ahead.

Ed Woodward will be assessing the situation of  Lingard and might decide to sell him this season as his contract expires in June 2021 with no further speculations of a contract extension.
