Manchester United shortlist another Barcelona sensation after Ansu Fati

Manchester United are waiting in the wings to sign another Barcelona prodigy, whose contract at Camp Nou runs out in the summer of 2022.

Manchester United were interested in signing the teenage sensation, Ansu Fati from Barcelona last summer. However, their bid of €150 million was bluntly rejected by the Catalonian club. Then Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu paid no heed to the offer, despite the club facing financial constraints during the pandemic.

Joan Laporta, the newly appointed Barcelona president has been tasked with the duty of solving the financial crisis at the club. The second issue he will be dealing with is the contract extension of several players in the coming summer. Lionel Messi‘s contract extension is of utmost importance, with the Argentinian showing his desire to remain at the club.

Another Barcelona prodigy, Ilaix Moriba‘s future remains uncertain at the club. His contract at Camp Nou expires in 2022 and  Laporta will be looking forward to extending his contract in the summer. The contract is expected to have a starting price of around 100 million euros, as reported by Mundo Deportivo. Mamady Moriba, father and agent of Ilaix has already stated that the player desires to continue at Camp Nou as long as contract negotiations are fair.

Moriba has made four La Liga appearances this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists. The 18-year old is one of the highly-rated players in Spain and can be a vital asset in Barcelona’s midfield for years to come. The report also adds that the likes of Manchester United and Everton are waiting in the wings to sign the teenage sensation, in case the contract extension talks do not come through.

However, it looks highly unlikely that Barcelona will let go of such a huge talent in the summer. The Catalonian club are building a team for the future and given that Moriba is just 18 years old, he will surely be a part of those plans. As of now, Ilaix switch to England looks a bit unrealistic.
