Manchester United set a ceiling price for Saul Niguez’s signing

Saul Niguez, who has spent 12 years at Atletico Madrid is set to leave the club, with Old Trafford being the most likely destination.

Atletico Madrid are currently sitting on top of the La Liga table, having a four lead from the second-placed Barcelona. ¬†However, the Spanish club suffered a shocking exit from the last 16 of the Champions League. Diego Simeone’s side lost 3-0 on aggregate to Chelsea and this will call for a squad revamp in the summer.

Saul Niguez who joined Atletico way back in 2008 is all set to leave the club in the summer. As reported by La Razon, Manchester United are one of the top candidates to sign the Spanish midfielder in the summer. However, the Red Devils are unwilling to trigger Saul’s 150 million euros release clause. The report suggests that United are willing to offer up to 50 million euros to secure his services.

Niguez broke into Atletico’s first-team squad in 2012 and had to wait until the 2014/15 season to establish himself as a regular in the starting lineup. The 26-year old midfielder has played 300 matches for the Spanish side, scoring 43 goals and assisting another 18. He has also established himself as a regular in Spain’s national side after his impressive performances over the few years.

Manchester United are sweating over the future of Paul Pogba whose contract expires in the summer of 2022. However, the Red Devils will look forward to selling the French star in the coming summer window if he is unwilling to extend his stay at the club. Saul Niguez is an ideal replacement for Paul Pogba and Manchester United will press for a transfer once they are clear about Pogba’s future at the club.

The 20-time league winners have shortlisted a few options to replace Pogba in the centre of the park. Franck Kessie, the AC Milan midfielder is also being eyed by the club as they are keeping their options open. As things stand, the signing of Saul, hinges on the future of Paul Pogba at Old Trafford. If the World Cup-winning star signs a contract extension in the coming months, there is no reason as to why the Red Devils will go after Saul Niguez.
