Manchester United have shortlisted an alternative to Jadon Sancho as they continue their pursuit for a right-winger in the summer.
Manchester United are desperate to sign a right-winger in the summer transfer window. The club’s main priority last summer was to sign the Borussia Dortmund winger, Jadon Sancho. However, the Red Devils could not match Dortmund’s extravagant demands, and eventually, the deal did not go through. With Sancho costing the club well over 100 million pounds, the Red Devils are looking for his alternatives in the market.
Manchester United have reignited their interest in the Barcelona star, Ousmane Dembele as reported by Sport. The Catalans remain determined to extend his contract which expires in June 2022. Dembele is believed to be a part of Ronald Koeman‘s long term plans at Camp Nou after establishing himself as a regular started under the former Everton manager.
The report adds that Manchester United are in constant contact with Dembele’s family and they are willing to offer the Catalans a transfer offer this summer. The club might consider holding back their offer for another season, in case the Frenchman does not decide to extend his contract, which means they can snatch him up on a free transfer the following season.
The 23-year old winger is expected to negotiate a new contract with Barcelona, however, his salary demands will be a huge barrier in the renewal process, as the club are amidst financial distress. However, Koeman has been impressed with Dembele and given that he is still relatively young, Barcelona might agree to his wages and retain his services for another four or five years.
As for Manchester United, they certainly need to sign a quality right-winger in the summer. Mason Greenwood has been enjoying a good spell with the club off-late, however, the Englishman is more effective playing a central role, rather than operating from the right side of the attack. Daniel James has been impressive in his recent outings, however, if the club aspires to become Premier League contenders next season, they will surely need some world-class acquisitions in the summer.
