Manchester United are one of the front-runners for Jadon Sancho‘s services and would need to break the bank to sign the Borussia Dortmund ace.
Manchester United progressed to the FA Cup’s semi-finals with a second win on the trot across all competitions. The Red Devils are also eyeing a top four spot in the Premier League which could guarantee them a place in the UEFA Champions League. With that said, it would take more if they want to contend for the bigger prizes.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed to safeguard his job until at least the end of this season, but poor results from now till the finish line could see the Norwegian get his marching orders. However, he is still playing an integral part when it comes to planning for the next season and has reiterated his desire to sign Jadon Sancho.
Borussia Dortmund are increasingly sure of the fact that the England international wouldn’t be on their roster next season and have valued him at 110 million pounds. Given the circumstances, it’s a lofty price tag but the player is totally worth every penny as can be seen from his performances week in and week out.
Mirror UK has now reported that the club is open with the prospect of selling as many as five players to fund a move for Sancho. Not much needs to be said about the 20-year-old’s quality as he is a genius goal-scorer and provides assists on a regular basis too. With the recent recoups at the Old Trafford, he could be one of the missing pieces in their puzzle.
Alexis Sanchez is someone that they’ll try to offload at any cost. The Chilean is currently on loan at Inter Milan but is wanted permanently by Tottenham Hotspur. By selling the former Arsenal winger, the Red Devils would free up on 400,000 pounds per week in wages. Sanchez could be sold at 30 million pounds or so.
Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones are the other four names who could be axed. All four United players have been subpar over the last few years and collectively, they could earn 50-60 million pounds by selling them, but finding suitors for their services could be a difficult task as nobody is really interested in them.
Finally, Chris Smalling, who is having a productive loan spell with AS Roma could be permanently bought by them. The centre-back could bring in 10-15 million pounds, but given the exquisite form that he’s shown at the Stadio Olimpico, Manchester United should demand at least 20 million pounds.
Nevertheless, five sales could see the 20-time Premier League champions comfortably bring in Jadon Sancho. The former Manchester City man could be a superb addition to their roster and a perfect upgrade from Daniel James, who is playing with aplomb but still has many areas to catch up on.
However, the club must pay importance to strengthening other roles as well. Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams should be shown the door for a quality left-back, whereas a better defensive midfielder should be signed as well. Lastly, a central defender who can help aerially and physically as compared to Victor Lindelof could be a great signing too.
Ed Woodward and his executives should act quickly if they want Sancho because the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea and Real Madrid are also hovering over him. In addition to that, the trio of clubs can offer the winger something which the Red Devils cannot for next season- Champions League football- and hence, money should be used as a mechanism to convince him into coming to the Old Trafford.
