Manchester United thumped Real Sociedad in the first leg of the Round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League 2020/21 campaign.

Manchester United put up an impressive display against Real Sociedad in Turin as they cruised to a 4-0 victory in their first leg of the round of 32 fixture in the UEFA Europa League. The Red Devils were expected to face some resistance from La Real but after the end of 90 minutes, the visitors were all smiles, courtesy of goals from Bruno Fernandes, Daniel James and Marcus Rashford.

On Thursday, United had a comfortable start to the game as the team had created a few chances in the opening 15 minutes of the game. Real Sociedad suffered their first setback after Bruno Fernades opened the scoring for his team after a mixup in the opposition backline which was capitalised by the Portuguese international to make 1-0 in favour of the visiting side.

The Red Devils added their second goal of the night as Bruno Fernandes was set up by Marcus Rashford in the 57th minute which was later slotted back home to create a two-goal cushion over the home-side. United went on to pile up more goals as Fred threaded a neat pass to Rashford which was tucked into the bottom corner of the goal. Daniel James contributed to the fourth goal as he saw his low shot squeeze past the goalkeeper’s legs.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be satisfied with his team’s performance in this away fixture and will now hope to see his side qualify to the next round after their home fixture next week. The Norwegian boss might rest some of his key players for the second leg in a bid to avoid fatigue. Let’s take a look at the talking points from this fixture.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were disappointed to have not qualified for the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League and hence had to drop down to Europe’s second-best event. The Red Devils looked motivated for this clash on Thursday as they dominated on all fronts of the pitch.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Daniel James were excellent in front of the goal and had posed a threat to the Sociedad backline throughout the whole game. The Red Devils defence also had a field day at the back end of the pitch as they remained tidy after some solid defending by Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly. Alex Telles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, too, were efficient in their defensive performances and had provided sufficient assistance while progressing higher up.
