Manchester United have set their sights on two strikers who might serve as short term answers to their present attack.
Manchester United have almost been stagnant during the present transfer window and the way that they have started the season only indicates that they may be heading for another trophy-less year. The club has only been able to sign Donny van de Beek from Ajax Amsterdam despite several gaping holes being visible in the roster. The Red Devils have although prioritised buying a striker before deadline day.
The search for an experienced striker has been on for some time now and the Manchester-based club has not been successful in acquiring one. The Red Devils are in talks with two strikers and will definitely want one of them to make a switch to the Old Trafford, according to Gianluca di Marzio.
Luka Jovic and Edinson Cavani have been shortlisted as possible options for the club. The Premier League giants are looking to bolster their strike options despite given that they have only Anthony Martial as a reliable option at their disposal and while Odion Ighalo continues being part of the squad regularly, he has failed to deliver while coming off the bench or even when given a larger share of minutes.
The present situation at Madrid has opened up speculations about Jovic as the Serbian striker was not able to find a regular spot in the starting team last season. The former Frankfurt man was able to make only 17 appearances in La Liga scoring only a meangre number of two goals in his debut season.
On the other hand, Cavani has been without a club since July as the Uruguayan’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain had expired in June. The striker had to leave the club in the middle of the knockout stages of the Champions League and he is presently available as a free agent in search for a new club.
Manchester United will have to make a choice between the two options on their hands. Both strikers have more or less the same traits and qualities but are different in terms of experience. The Red Devils will have to choose between youth and experience. Cavani might get more preference from Solskjaer’s side as the team might require the experience of Uruguyuan in the Champions League.
Jovic might as well wait for another term before making a decision on his exit. The 23-year-old was handed a start against Real Betis in La Liga. Manchester United are yet to make an official attempt to land either of the two strikers but Ed Woodward will have to speed up the negotiation aspect of the deal if his side is to secure the services of any of the two strikers.
