Manchester United commit an error that has proven to be costly as the Red Devils may potentially lose out on Jadon Sancho this summer
One of the most dramatic transfer rumors this season has been regarding English international Jadon Sancho who plays for Borussia Dortmund and has been heavily linked with Manchester United. With constant complications along with ups and downs in the deal and deadlines, the speculations about the transfer of the 20-year-old have been a roller coaster.
It was first reported that Premier League side Manchester United would be looking to add the Englishman to their side to strengthen their attack and increase their chances of possibly lifting a title in the upcoming years. The addition of the former Manchester City player would have been pivotal as Jadon Sancho is a proven goalscorer as well as a creator.
However, things quickly turned around for the Red Devils as Liverpool apparently started leading the race to sign the youngster, due to statements by Sancho himself, saying that he would have greater chances at winning trophies at Anfield. This was because the Reds have been crowned Premier League champions this season and had lifted the UEFA Champions League the season before.
Finally, a middle ground was reached. Dortmund agreed on selling the 20-year-old to United but demanded a 108 million euro transfer fee and an offer on the table but a transfer fee that high seemed outrageous for the English side and no offer was made.
Along with that, the contract offers given to Sancho have also raised some eyebrows as reports state that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side offered a contract which asked the winger to take a pay cut which further ruined the chances of the prolific winger signing for them. The new proposed contract however matches the current wage he gets at the Bundesliga side at around 190,000 euros a week.
United are convinced that a price that high is unrealistic, especially due to the economic situations posed by the coronavirus pandemic. A transfer that seemed very likely a week ago has somehow crumbled, as Ole’s side refused to pay a very high cost for the 20-year-old.
