Manchester United have seen their defence falter in stupid ways since the restart of football, reigniting the need of a central defender’s signing.
Manchester United have been in excellent form off late. They have enjoyed a 17-game unbeaten streak and seem to have benefited the most from the football hiatus, among all the teams involved. However, Ole’s side still has its flaws particularly at the back.
As per Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are reportedly looking at securing the services of the talented and one of the most valuable defenders in Milan Skriniar. The 25-year-old is regarded highly and Inter Milan have developed a great player in recent years.
Skriniar, however, might see a dip in his value and the reason behind this is his form. It seems that he has failed to adapt to Antonio Conte’s three-man defensive lineup of a formation that is designed for attacking play.
His arrival could see Victor Lindelof lose his place, but with the big picture in mind, that is secondary. The presence of the Slovak could create competition in the squad, thus improving the overall quality. It must be mentioned however, that, signing a central defender isn’t exactly high on the Red Devils’ priority list now.
Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also interested in signing the Inter man and so the Red Devils might have to make a quick decision regarding the 25-year-old. However, as things stand now, they have tabled an offer for him.
They have been predominantly on the hunt for a winger, midfielder and probably a striker too. Jadon Sancho remains their prime target but are reluctant in meeting the 120 million euro price set by BVB. So, they might just wait for another season when they recover from the financial blow given by the ongoing pandemic.
Ben Chilwell, one among many in their Wishlist for the summer is tipped to join Manchester United as they are supposedly leading the race for Leicester’s star defender. Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly has been linked to Manchester United but the centre-back has played down any rumors about his exit from the club; so, the deal for him stands as a dead-end.
Apparently the sum offered for Milan is around £65 million but it might just take a decent chunk out of Man United’s war-chest to get him to leave San Siro. Not to forget, they have been heavy links between the two in the past window as well.
What’s bound to happen will happen ultimately but Manchester United should get their priorities straight and act on them. If their target of the summer is Jadon Sancho, they must find a way to make the deal feasible for both the sides. In all probability, they could even end up offering either of Rashford or Martial in a player plus cash deal and it would also solve Dortmund’s difficulty of finding a replacement for the 20-year-old.
