Manchester United join the race to compete against rivals Manchester City for the signing of star defender, to ideally partner with Harry Maguire.

After the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January, the current Manchester United form has taken a drastic upward curve. Fans have witnessed some scintillating football in recent months with the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Fernandes being amongst the goal scorers and assists.

In the recently concluded FA cup semi-finals against Chelsea, the defensive frailties were exposed as the Blues, through Olivier Giroud and Mason Mount, targeted Victor Lindelof on multiple occasions.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has at times expressed his desires of entering a market for a forward player but also a left-footed centre back as a partner for Harry Maguire. Nathan Ake, the Bournemouth defender, has been strongly linked with the Red devils as it looks almost certain the cherries will be relegated from the Premier League.

With growing concerns at United over the partnership of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, as per the fresh reports from The Sun, United are interested in the services of Napoli Centre back Kalidou Koulibaly

United signed Maguire for £85million for Leicester last summer while Lindelof has been at the club since 2017. However, in recent games against Chelsea, Southampton and West Ham they have shown worrying signs and the United hierarchy will make a move for the 29-year-old Napoli Star Koulibaly, should Manchester City cool their interest in the player.

United were given a boost last week as multiple reports in Italy and England claimed that Napoli would drop their price from £80m to £65m to move the player on. In addition to that, it is also being reported that Manchester City are close to agreeing to a £35million deal for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake.

If the reports are believed to be true, then it will be very unlikely that after the signing of Nathan Ake, Manchester City would be willing to splash the cash on another centre back this season with signing a replacement being their priority.

Despite all the speculation about his future, Koulibaly has three years still remaining in his contract with Napoli and has already given hints that he would be happy to continue and end his career with the Naples.
