Manchester United and Everton set to battle it out for Napoli superstar

Manchester United and Everton are reportedly in contention to secure the services of Kalidou Koulibaly next summer transfer market.

Manchester United and Everton are reportedly in the race to sign Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli, as per the Football Insider. The centre-back was on one of the most sought after players last summer in the transfer window as clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester City were keen on acquiring his services.

However, as things stand, Koulibaly is still a Napoli player and is on contract until 2023 with the Naples based side. The 29-year-old is widely considered as one of the world’s best defenders alongside the likes of Sergio Ramos and Virgil van Dijk. Despite being so highly rated, the Senegal international has won just three major trophies in his senior career.

A new challenge is certainly on the cards for Koulibaly who is hungrier than ever to lift trophies to further extend his legacy. A move last summer to Manchester City did not materialise, however, Manchester United and Everton are now ready to go head to head for the defender.

Out of the two, the Red Devils certainly have the upper hand given their financial strength when compared to the Toffees. Kalidou Koulibaly is currently valued at 89 million pounds which is quite a hefty figure for a side like Everton to meet after the impact of COVID-19.

Manchester United are in a dire need of a centre-back since the partnership of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof is quite inconsistent. The potential arrival of Koulibaly into the starting eleven for the Red Devils will certainly help in solidifying their defence.

Unlike Lindelof, the 29-year-old Napoli star is an all round centre-back as he is strong in the air, physically strong and has excellent passing range and vision.

The only possible issue that Manchester United could face in their quest in signing the Serie A star would be meeting Napoli’s transfer fee. Ole Gunnar Solskajer is also in desperate need of a right-winger and a striker. The likes of Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland are on United’s wishlist, however, signing the duo along with Kalidou Koulibaly could certainly amount to 300 million euros or more.

Instead, the only viable option seems like the Red Devils would have to choose between either one of Haaland and Sancho along with Koulibaly.

Should Manchester United go for Kalidou Koulibaly next summer? or a double deal for Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho?
