Manchester United and Chelsea are preparing to give stiff competition to Bayern Munich for the signing of defensive midfielder.

Manchester United and Chelsea had been on the lookout for a defensive midfielder in the recently concluded transfer window as both sides were keen to add a bit of defensive prowess to their respective lineups. Both, the Red Devils and the Blues were unsuccessful in their attempts to land a defensive midfielder in the summer transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side was linked with a move with one of the star players of the Stamford Bridge as there were rumours regarding N’Golo Kante making a surprise switch to the Old Trafford. On the other hand, Frank Lampard‘s side was reportedly in pursuit of West Ham midfielder Declan Rice as the west London club were interested in bringing in a defensive midfielder.

Both English clubs have now prioritised the signing of another defensive target as Denis Zakaria from Borussia Monchengladbach has now been in the radar of the Premier League duo, Daily Mail reports. Treble winners Bayern Munich have already enquired about the availability of the Swiss international and were the first team to place their interest for the 23-year-old.

The former Young Boys midfielder has been pretty good for the Bundesliga club as last season the player made 23 appearances in the German League scoring two goals and providing two assists at the Borussia Park. The Geneva-born player has also done a commendable job for the national team with his recent outings and has been a reliable man ahead of the backline for both, club and country.

Bayern Munich faces the possibility of facing stiff competition from Manchester United and Chelsea as both  English sides have expressed their desire to land the talented youngster from Monchengladbach. With the player receiving interest from some of the top clubs of Europe, it will be interesting to see which club wins the race for the skillful defensive midfielder.

For now, there has not been any official statement from the trio of the clubs but if sources are to believed then the 23-year-old player will be looking to change sides in next year’s summer window. The  Monchengladbach no. 8 is likely to complete the ongoing season with the German outfit.
