Both of the Manchester clubs are looking to address their frailties and have identified two players from the Serie A who they tip to be great signings.
Liverpool absolutely ran away with the Premier League this season and while nothing should be taken away from their dominance, the result was also because the competitors were lacklustre. Manchester City had a horrible defensive record, while Manchester United could do nothing with David de Gea and Harry Maguire making innumerable blunders.
Therefore, the two crosstown rivals have now decided to invest in their defensive departments. As per The Independent, both Premier League giants have a few common targets and only a bidding war can decide the takers.
Manchester City’s need for a solid defender is well known since Vincent Kompany’s departure last season caused them a lot of problems at the back. Aymeric Laporte picking up a long-term injury only made matters worse, leaving the Citizens 23 points behind the title winners.
Manchester United on the other hand, have made it clear that their target of the summer is the 20 year-old Jadon Sancho who seems to have taken the world by storm. However, they are also looking at reinforcements for their defence as well.
Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola is once again likely to flex his side’s financial capability and willing to invest lucrative sums on the defender. With that in mind, Koulibaly’s sum of 70 million pounds seems affordable whereas Skriniar is only a back-up to the Senegalese.
United on the other hand are thought to be more centred towards landing Skriniar, who they believe would be a better and more reasonably priced option.
Their main struggle is in dealing with aerial balls on Lindelof’s side, and with Maguire having to do the work of two defenders at times, the Slovak would be ideal.
